    Is the Manuka honey in the store FDA approved?

    • Yes, you can check it yourself by following the following method:

    Log in to the Tamani app on the Food and Drug Administration website and scan the barcode on the back of the product to see all the product licensing information.


    How is Manuka honey classified?

    • The bee production is first collected and then sent to the laboratory. After testing, it is numbered with a single production number that cannot be repeated. The honey is then packed in containers numbered with only that production number. Random samples from the containers are then re-tested after they are wrapped to ensure that they are packed with the same honey that was previously tested and that contains a specific concentration. Finally, a certificate is issued for each production.


    What does UMF mean?

    • UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor, a quality mark awarded by the New Zealand UMF Organization to companies that produce Manuka honey. This mark guarantees the purity and quality of the honey and its unique natural properties.


    What is UMF certification?

    • It's a certification issued by specialized laboratories affiliated with the UMF organization. Several factors are tested to ensure the quality and purity of Manuka honey. The most important tests performed in these laboratories include:

    1- Make sure that the honey is extracted from Manuka flowers and not from other flowers.

    2- Make sure that the honey is natural and does not contain any additives.

    3- Ensure that the honey has not been exposed to heat or pasteurization.

    4- Determine the concentration of methylglyoxal (MGO) in honey.

    5- Determine the concentration of the following elements: HMF, DHA, and Leptosperm.

    6- The production number, sample number and production date are added to the UMF certificate.

    7- All this information is linked to the organization’s website via a QR code added to the certificate and verified using a mobile phone camera so that the consumer can verify the laboratory information without interference from the honey-producing company.

    Is there an expiration date on Manuka honey?

    • Manuka honey doesn't have an expiration date if stored in a cool, dry place. However, the FDA requires that the expiration date be indicated on the package, which is valid for five years.

    Why is there a difference between the expiration date of Manuka honey on the FDA website and the date on the honey package?

    • Honey does not have an expiration date, but the FDA license specifies a maximum of 3 years for importing the product.


    What is the correct way to store Manuka honey?
